“Site of Memory" open from Nov 17,2022 -Jan 8.2023 at The Atlanta Contemporary

I am excited to share with y’all “Site of Memory” an installation curated by Amy Miller is now on view, at the Atlanta Contemporary. Entrance is free and open to the public. On view through January 8, 2023.
I can’t wait to see you all!
"Site of Memory" is an installation that incorporates cyanotype on cotton and silk, assemblage, embroidery, feathers, mother of pearl, beads, tulle, and waist beads amongst it's many components. There are so many layers to this work both figuratively and literally.
" Site of Memory "
Inspired by and as the visual embodiment of the words of Toni Morrison's essay The Site of Memory
"On the basis of some information and a little bit of guesswork you journey to a site to see what remains were left behind and to reconstruct the world that these remains imply. What makes it fiction is the nature of the imaginative act: my reliance on the image - on the remains - in
addition to recollection, to yield up a kind of a truth. The Site of Memory by definition, is distinct from fact. Presumably its the product of imagination - invention - and it claims the freedom to dispense with what really happened, or where it really happened, or when it really happened, and nothing in it needs to be publicly verifiable, although much in it can be. "
- Toni Morrison
My intent as the artist is not to be a historian, but rather imagine the possibilities that memory and history implies.
I am truly grateful to be given space to have created it.
Join me at Sliver Space,
transformed into a "Site of Memory".
